About Us
Craggs Architects Ltd is an Architect’s practice based at Aske Stables, just outside of Richmond in the heart of North Yorkshire.
Registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), we are a highly experienced team of qualified Architects and Architectural Technologists led by Katie Craggs.
Katie has worked in architecture for over 20 years and specialises in designing projects in rural areas, including market towns, villages and conservation areas.
Located within the Richmondshire District and on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park we are experienced with all type of developments in conservation areas including listed buildings, providing a bespoke service from inception through to completion.
Our portfolio includes everything from domestic extensions in towns and rural areas, through to commercial new builds. Clients include Catterick Racecourse, Barnard Castle School and Wetherby Racecourse.

Each project is individual with its own set of requirements and objectives.
We aim to work with clients to listen to their brief and transform the aspirations into a high-quality finished product that is fit for purpose and meets the brief, whilst creating design excellence.
Successful architecture emerges through an understanding of the clients and building users’ needs and aspirations as well as the context in which the building sits.
What to expect
As members of the RIBA we follow their plan of works to ensure the process of briefing, designing and constructing building projects is followed.
After taking the initial brief, the first process with any project is to carry out an analysis to fully understand the context of the site. This means studying and understanding the physical nature of its setting, opportunities and constraints for the site but also where relevant its cultural and historical influences and significance.
Concept design follows to explore design ideas including layouts, massing, scale, materials to establish the design intent. This leads to detailed drawings suitable for a planning application and then onto technical stage in co-ordination with engineers and contractors.
The final stage is the construction where we work closely with the chosen contractors and carry out the role of Contract Administration.
Embracing technology
We use the most up to date software and modelling programmes to produce our drawing packages. This allows for a collaborative approach working alongside other design teams and engineers to ensure the technical packages are co-ordinated.

Our team of experienced Architects and Technologists have an in-depth understanding of construction methods and materials.
We aim to produce construction information of the highest quality ensuring that our designs meet required standards and regulations and can be built safely to budget and programme.
